Rocky Road, photographers’ NYC Bike Tour

52 kilometers. Brief summary of proposed tour route below. Map can be zoomed in and scrolled or viewed and shared from here. This page is public and can be viewed by any of your group by sharing the link.

I concentrated on picturesque and panaramic views and vistas. Tour begins in lower Manhattan, then we tack over to Brooklyn, where from the waterfront, we’ll see some of the most photogenic skyline, bridge and river views. Then travel uptown via the westside greenway. At this point, we aren’t directly visiting Empire State Building, Grand Central Terminal or some of the more iconic architecture. My thought is that much, like the Empire State looks best from some distance and approaching its base doesn’t give on much of a view. A lot of this frames the cityscape via parks and greenways. But we can talk about that.

52 kilometers is the most ambitious tour I’ve led and we’ll have to keep moving to get it all done. I have faith in Dutch cyclists. It’s ok with me if it runs longer than 6 hours. I included a leg into Harlem toward the end, which we can trim if we run out of time or get tired. That would probably trim about an hour and 10 km from the tour. Another option is to skip the Governors Island leg, it’s outside the usual tourist circuit, but there are some really stunning vistas from there, see this. I thought, you might like to see our Harlem, however!
